Well that's actually true, the overwhelming forces of Xerxes the Great (Khshayârsha) King of Persia did inspire the the divided Greece to unite against the Persian army and Greece did have a sort of democracy while Persia had one leader to make all descisions. In the end the Greeks were defeated by Xerxes and the Persian army in the Battle of Thermopylae, though they had severe losses.

Okay i've seen the movie now and i must say that Xerxes looks a little gay in the movie but on the other hand he is very generous and doesn't seem evil.
The 300 Spartans kill 60.000 Persians in the movie but the Persians win in the end..
Anyway i don't understand the Iranian rage against this movie, it is not made to attack or insult Iranians and i actually think the Persians are pretty cool in the movie, those men with silver masks are nice and the sight of millions of arrows fired by Persians archers looks quite impressive.
Btw. i only remember one black Persian in the movie, most of them looks like people from the Middle East.

But it's a really nice movie very cinematic and with quite impressive effects, i will definetely recommend it!

Listen to the "expert" (i just had 3 colleges about alex !) he was borned in Macedonia and his father Philipus II started to fight with other country's to get more land, and when he was murdered Alex took the job of his father and with some luck and a lot of wisedom about fighting etc, he took over whole greece, asia Minor (turkey now), small parts of india and egypt
