Question

Hey, I just joined this site, and I have a question to ask. I am a fan of general techno and dance music, and I was wondering...

What makes Italodance different from these other genres of music? Is it even different at all?

Either way, I can learn from your tastes in music. I can see some artists are quite popular on this site, and I should check them out.

Personally, my favorite artist is Tune Up. They only made a few songs, but it's good stuff. Most of techno is remixed crap, so it can be hard to find good artists. But when you find good stuff, you can't stop listening. Smile

Hey man, welcome on board ! Smile

Well, yeah Tune Up is pretty great i love their tracks.

About italodance, well first, it's not the same kind of bass, other techno genres are using all differents basses, if you listen carefully, you'll hear the different.

Then Italo might be a bit slower than Jumpstyle/Hands up, and the build up is slighty different. Most of the time, melodies and lyrics are more worked in italo than classic Hands Up..

but maybe other members will tell you better than me, but i think Italo is really made with the desire of making you 'feel' the music better than just jumping at it when it's played. Smile

In my opinion, the biggest difference is the bass, but sometimes its hard to distinguish what genres they are, many house or others always go very close to italo.for example"E Fable - my cariilon, unconditional - computer love, they are both house genres.and in fact i dont know what on earth they should be called.:confused:i think i prefer to take them as italo.:Djust feel about more of it,man, then you can taste the italo connotation!Tongue

Italodance is way more filtered than any other electronic genre.
Bass, vocals and synth-parts are heavily altered compared to hard dance (Tune Up). Italo is not as harsh in the sound and the tempo is a bit slower. (though a harsh slow style called lentoviolento exists).
Besides what danielsomma just posted the wiki might be interesting to check out:

Hey what you do mean by NOT harsh? ...never heard of Molinaro? xD

For me.. it's the bass [so called ATTACK and filter xD] then the melodies are very melodic and catchy, and one of the important things is the BEAT, the way the sounds (kick etc.) fits together with the bass.

There's many "styles" of italo... difficult to explain, but when you know it like us - you know Laughing out loud

BTW Welcome to the land of IDP! Smile

Well McW: that's Italian Hard Dance Style, not Italo Dance.

Welcome to the site! Smile

I didn't know what the difference was either when I began to listen to italo, but after a while, when i had heard many italo songs i started to hear a pattern.

If you're like me & don't understand anything of all the technical shit the guys above me has written (

), do as i did! Listen to alot of tracks & soon you'll hear it too!

There's the oldschool italo (like Eiffel65) the modern italo style & lento violento (i know there are some who disagree with that this is an awesome genre, but come on, it's the same this as italo but slower) & other (:

r0xdancer0x @ YouTube has plenty of tracks uploaded at his account. Check him out! Wink

It's called that yes... but it still has the same "basics" just given an extra roughness.

That's what makes that style distinctive from normal italo and that's why we have a special name for it Wink

Italodance is not as harsh in the sound as Hard dance and Hard trance which most dance listeners prefer.
