Italodance in Italy? No way!

It's midnight, saturday night and I'm already home... a great dance festival had to be done tonight into the sport arena of my town (Gabry Ponte, Eiffel 65 and some other dance artist already played there) and when I went outside the docks I found the arena closed with all the lights off and with no people around it: the event has been cancelled!
The main reason is that only a few tickets have been sold... only resident DJs should have played tonight without any italodance VIP like the other events, just for this fact the interest around a dance evening has never been so low before!!

I really don't know what to do and what else to say...... why the country that has given birth to our genre always counts on people who only love to go where the others go, do what others do and listen to what the majority listen to?!? Why all the italofans like me have to renounce to those few events and listen to their favourite music in their car?!? Why must we renounce to melody, kicks, tuba basses, happy synths with funny vocals and we must instead keep into our clubs: singers who are unable to sing, fake DJs who are unable to mix, and crappy house music with a commercial intro by Shakira or Rihanna?!?

Sorry guys... I'm just so disappointed Sad

I understand your feeling...

But the truth is.. that people from the italodance era...grew up..so they started listening more "mature" genre. Most of the people aren't listening club music for their whole life. Between 15 to 30, they do, but at some point they get tired of this, they don't have time to go clubbing anymore etc...

So now, the kids from today, they grew up with house music. Take a regular italian teenager. he's fifteen, for the first time he goes into a club, and he's hearing Cristian Marchi, Nari & Milani etc.. all over the place, well, he will listen to house later on..
Basically, if italo isn't played in italy today, it's because the actual clubbing people never grew up with italo. Smile

If you then ask me why italo died, why people pulled it out from the airs or several radios, well this is trends, you can't do anything about it... Smile

I would prefer Italo to die instead of Shitty italo with bad vocal, bad mastering and boring melody.

I dont know what you are talking about. As long there are good songs like from Sheby, Hoxygen, Dance rocker and some other artists I like I do not wish italodance to die...

The lack of interest of yesterday evening is the kind of fact that brings DJs to stop playing and producers to stop producing.
Just a few minutes ago I learned that the festival will have place next month and the exhibitioners DJs will be Fabio Amoroso (former italodancer, now into electro and commercial house) and DJs From Mars (electro-house)...... two ELECTRO sets into a DANCE evening, this is frustrating!

Times changes all the time... early 2000 it was Dance, then Rap music, now house/electro ...it will change again.

Hopefully back to dance Smile ...still think it will get more and more electronic - and there italo still has a chance Smile

Not for fun it's called "The Furture Sound Of Dance Music" xD

I think you are very alone in your opinion Luc. My parents for instance still listen mostly only what they listened on the dancefloor in their youth and your whole idea with one genre being more mature than another is just silly. Alright Jazz might be more mature than the pokemon soundtrack, but between house and dance music it's not that black and white.

It's a matter of trend yes, but also a matter of evolution both musically and technologically. The diversity of electronic music has exploded proportionally with the development of computers and software. Why did it drop out of clubs and radios? People don't get tired of one genre, they just get more interested in another genre, people like what's new, so radios and clubs play what's new.

Well, it's sad to know that Italo Dance is not that popular in Italy, it sounds absurd Puzzled ...It was a shock for me to know that several Italo producers became electro - house producers (Dj Ross, Dj Sanny J, Prezioso feat. Marvin, etc) Sad

Maybe Italo Dance is not as popular as the other music styles anymore, but there are a lot of new producers and people like you guys, who doesn't leave Italodance alone, I live in a region which this music is almost completely unknown; but I'm glad to know people who can feel the happiness of Italo sound as i do,you all made me learn that it wasn't ok to download Italo illegally, that's why I do it no more (you civilized me xD )

Well, at least we have Internet, we can make people who doesn't know about this genre know it, I know that quite a few of them would become new Italofans Laughing out loud

Sure, and well I guess people who grew up with italo are still listening to it. BUT are they still going to club? Still have the time to buy or listen radio? well no.. And there's no stuff as some kind of music being more mature than another..

Yeah you got a point there, people who went to clubs in 2004 might not anymore. Every generation probably have their own preferences in "dancing"-music (club). Anyway that's just another good incitement for the people who love italodance to keep it alive Smile And every genre has its amateur producers, lots of poor italo is coming out, but really a lot more crappy house comes out every month Wink

I do have to agree on that there haven't been many good releases lately (except for the IPD compilation, don't kill me Wink). Now this isn't a new opinion,
LAST YEAR I decided to go back in time and search for awesomeness, since I wasn't satisfied with the italo that was released then and I didn't want to go full out house-whoring.

All genres are at some point going to "die", though. I think what that means is that that genre wont be played 24/7 in media, but ofc there are still going to be people listening to it.
I for instance think hip-hop is dead. Ever since David Baguetta decided to make that love takes over sexy bitch poo, all hh artists wanted to work with him to earn dineros. Ofc, true hip-hop fans are still searching for diamonds in the huge pile of shit that's released these days, but hh is definitely not as "central" as it used to be.
That's what I believe the majority of this forum is doing. Searching for diamonds... Wink

Ofc, italo will live on thanks to the small community of italo lovers there is, but claiming it's dead is not wrong, imo.

Enjoy the Sunday, everyone.

Ps. The Pokemon theme song is the most mature song ever. It will be playing as I walk down the aisle.

A dead genre would be a genre not produced nor released any more at all.

I think it's just a matter of time until it will get more popular again. Music trends come and go in phases and I foresee that it will become popular again in the next 5 years, also in Italy and especially in the Italian youth Smile
No matter what will happen: There will always be a community of people who appreciate it!

I found a poster for a Diabolika gig and it had nothing but Mainstream artists. Artists such as David Baguetta, Skrillrex, Deadmau5, Avicii, Above and Beyond and Armin van Buuren. Some say that Diabolika was a great club, and it probably had some great underground DJ's. I think it was open during the Italodance era, but it shows the state of modern club music.

hola friend, the "Diabolika" (with some djs from m2o, the italian fm radio) event has always been based on house music (underground styles)
no italodance on it since it was created
the only difference today, is that it has mainstream djs and not underground house music
sorry for bad english =)
